A server Virtualization Assessment gives you a clear view of server consolidation opportunities within your existing physical IT infrastructure. We assess your current server landscape to determine your potential costs and savings and better prepare you to roll out VMware vSphere™.

Deliverables

• Up to 30 days of system and performance data for existing Windows servers in your environment. To collect the data, a consultant installs a VMware Capacity Planner Data Manager at one site (one collector)
• Data analysis for up to 20 existing Windows servers
• Server consolidation and virtualization assessment report including a preliminary total cost of ownership analysis of the sampled environment, and recommendations

Roles and Responsibilities

• VMware Certified Consultant: Leads assessment efforts; provides best practices knowledge for datacenter and infrastructure efforts
• Customer IT Management: Plans and coordinates all assessment-related IT activities and provides access to systems and personnel to complete assessment
• Customer Systems Administrator: Responsible for server hardware, storage and networking as well as operating system and application information sharing

Scope and Pricing

• Analysis conducted on up to 20 Windows servers selected by the customer for approximately $1,500
• VMware Virtualization Assessment created and delivered by a VMware Certified consultant

Requirements

• Dedicated, networked (including Internet access) Windows 2000 Server SP3 or higher machine with at least 500 MHz CPU, 256MB RAM, and 2GB free disk space
• Local and domain administrator (root) access to existing servers to gather data for use in analysis
