In the summer of 2016, LightEdge broke ground on its second Des Moines, IA Data Center. The 48,000 square foot facility opened in October 2017, with the potential to expand to 73,000 square feet based on demand. This new ground-up build follows the late 2015 expansion of its current state-of-the-art, fully-managed data center facility located on the same campus.
Fast Facts: Des Moines Data Center Facilities
Location – Central Iowa has consistently been ranked as one of the lowest-risk areas for data center placement. The threat of natural disasters is extremely minimal.
Structure – The buildings have 12” reinforced pre-cast concrete walls with joints reinforced and tested to 200+ MPH winds. The campus is built to suit up to 20,000 square feet of additional data center space on property.
Power – The facilities have a power density of 225 Watts per square foot with redundant power utility feeds delivered underground. This eliminates outages due to wind, snow and ice. Iowa power costs are among the lowest in the nation.
Cooling – Cooling through packaged HVAC units located at the side of each facility to minimize roof penetrations.
Security – Both data centers are monitored and controlled 24/7/365 by video monitoring, DVR retention, key card security and biometric access points. Data center physical security complies with PCI-DSS v3.0, HIPAA / HITECH guidelines and is audited annually using SSAE-16 and ISO.
Redundancy – Our facilities use redundant power and cooling, geographically diverse central offices, and multiple data network carrier access to weather nearly any possible incident with minimal downtime.
