Earlier this week we announced that we will be teaming up with ScienceLogic for our Monitoring services. Hear from our VP of Cloud and Product Architecture, Mike McHenry, below to learn more about this exciting partnership.
Recently we chose to partner with ScienceLogic for a complete replacement of our monitoring technologies, both internally and externally. ScienceLogic has been a leader in providing monitoring solutions for service providers for many years.
I’m very excited about this partnership for several reasons.
Firstly, ScienceLogic takes a somewhat different approach to monitoring that do most of its competitors. We find that this unique approach aligns well with our vision of IT management. While most monitoring solutions are content to manage device states, ScienceLogic was architected around the principal that the BUSINESS drives IT requirements. To this end ScienceLogic provides views, reports and metrics that matter to the business, not just the IT resources managing the devices being monitored. Make no mistake, while ScienceLogic does a phenomenal job of traditional device monitoring it is also one of the market leaders in displaying that data (in a meaningful fashion) to business decision makers. Finally the business can create and manage its own Service Level metrics, and can easily validate the performance of its IT providers. We plan on taking full advantage of this capability and sharing it with our customers so they too can gain this visibility into their ENTIRE IT environment.
Secondly, ScienceLogic has architected a comprehensive PLATFORM. Contrast this with many other attempts at full monitoring suites and you’ll see many attempts to stitch disparate monitoring TOOLS together. Having personally used and deployed many of the “other attempts” at comprehensive solutions, I’m very confident that ScienceLogic’s approach will lead to easier platform management. More importantly I’m confident it will result in more frequent and less painful functionality upgrades.
Finally, ScienceLogic has a wealth of pre-built device templates available for our use “out of the box”. As a Service Provider we have an enormous variety of equipment that we are responsible for. As we entered into the vendor selection phases of our project we were expecting to find all vendors would be strong in some areas but weak in others. In other words we were expecting to do some development ourselves to handle the variety of equipment we manage. We were pleasantly surprised as we investigated and found that ScienceLogic was able to handle ALL of our gear out of the box. And not just a ping test, but full device discovery and event correlation capabilities. Pretty amazing!
