Rebuilding Together is the leading volunteer organization that, in partnership with the community, rehabilitates the homes of low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly, disabled, and families with dependent children. There is no cost to qualified homeowners for the services provided. Since 1994, Rebuilding Together Greater Des Moines has improved 600 homes through the efforts of approximately 15,000 volunteers.
On Saturday May,7 2011 , Jennie Smith, House Captain for Rebuilding Des Moines, along with volunteers from The Young Professionals group, lead by Lindsay Alderman with LightEdge Solutions, adopted the home of Edith, an elderly woman who lives with Multiple Sclerosis, and recently suffered a stroke. She has poor vision and hearing, and was largely in need of assistance through the interior and exterior of her home.
Together with a crew of 29 YPC volunteers, they tackled the home repair projects including scraping and painting her house, landscaping, painting kitchen cupboards and installing a cabinet in the bathroom.
