DES MOINES, IA – Tuesday, February 23, 2021 – LightEdge, a leading provider of compliant cloud and colocation services, today announced that it has strategically partnered with FD-IX, a Midwest-IX company, to install an Internet Exchange node at the LightEdge Data Center in Altoona, Iowa, making it the first interstate Internet Exchange and first FD-IX node in the state.
FD-IX’s offering through the LightEdge Altoona Data Center is revolutionary for the state and the local Midwest enterprises now able to tap into it. Any organization connected to this Internet Exchange can directly exchange a portion of their traffic with other members via peering. This results in lower bandwidth costs and reduced TCO.
“LightEdge is excited to offer the very first interstate Internet Exchange in the state of Iowa,” says LightEdge Vice President of Business Development Dan Kurtz. “Internet Exchanges are able to offload traffic locally for faster content sharing speeds and reduced internet bandwidth. Peering networks are in high-demand for local carriers, long haul carriers, content providers, large enterprises, and companies with the goal of lower latency.”
The location was a strategic move for FD-IX in order to provide faster speeds to Midwestern markets through highly secure facilities. “The Altoona data center is a perfect fit for the FD-IX strategy of bringing content closer and closer to Service Providers and local businesses,” says Justin Wilson of FD-IX. “LightEdge’s Data Center allows FD-IX to drastically cut down latency by allowing for local routing of traffic that would otherwise have to travel to Chicago or Denver.”
The internet Exchange reinforces LightEdge’s role in delivering cutting-edge connectivity to area organizations. The LightEdge facility node will allow for faster network speeds across the Internet Exchange at much lower prices than traditional networks can provide.
