“I am definitely NOT an artist,” was a common phrase heard at EdgeBCC last Friday as various team members from LightEdge Solutions gave an hour of their time throughout the day to help with their annual project for the Children’s Cancer Connection. Each year, CCC hosts a summer camp at the Y Camp in Boone for children who are undergoing or have undergone cancer treatments, as well as a week-long camp for their siblings later in the summer. It’s a week where kids can get away and just be kids for a week! They change their theme each year, with this year’s theme being “All Aboard” and focused on transportation. LightEdge creates lifesize wood cut-outs that tie into the theme each year.
This year’s inspiration came from children’s cartoons in the form of vans, trains and cars. The project always starts the same – with a blank cut-out and large, slightly overwhelmed eyes that seem to scream, “Where do we even start? What have we agreed to do?” And each year, it ends the same way, too – with statements like, “Wow – they look fantastic…we did that?!?!?” and ecstatic children at camp who stand in line to have their picture taken with that year’s creation!
